Study of Romans October 19, 2006

Isn’t it neat how one can study a particular book or passage numerous of times before, but it could have a total opposite meaning each time?  In BSF (Bible Study Fellowship), we’re currently studying Romans 3 this week.  Boy, has this book hit me hard this time around?  I’ve read Romans so many times before, maybe not the whole book but certain passages, but now through BSF, since we’re studying it more intensely that how I used to study, God’s words have been more alive to me than before!!!  I used to think that His sacrifice on the cross for us was a good thing but never realized how much more than what it really is.  I’ve been more open to see a glimpse of the pain and suffering that He went through for us and to open my eyes of significance of accepting Him as our Lord and personal Savior.  I felt like dropping to my knees and asking for repentance as I read these first books of Romans.  I’m so thankful that God has allowed me to study His Word freely here in the states and it’s a good remind for all of us to pray for our perscuting brothers ans sisters in other nations.  Most of all, we should continue to pray for our unsaved family members and friends.  May the Holy Spirit continuely nudge in their hearts how much they need God and may our life be a reflection of His love for all.

Praise our Almighty King! October 9, 2006

Yesterday, I felt so thankful since I finally got the courage to confront my friend about the misunderstanding.  Being a unconfrontational person, it was hard for me to tell her that I was hurt by what she wrote to me.  But had a weird dream the night before that we were like elementary school kids choosing our friends.  If someone was my friend, that person couldn’t be her friend.  God finally knocked some sense into me through that dream to talk to her.  It was long enough that satan was using this situation to put a block in our friendship.   It’s was a hard week to have a misunderstanding with a friend and especially if you consider that friend to be one of your best friends.  It turns out that the way I read that email was totally opposite of what she was trying to convey to me.  The lesson we both learn from this is that if we’re ever again have any misunderstandings, we need to clear it up with one another within 24 hours.

Praise God for His wonderfulness to clear up our misunderstandings!  (According to Sichan, I was like a sad puppy dog all week long).  He knows that we need love from our friends! :)

Our Crazy TV Lifestyle October 5, 2006

After reading Mel’s blog on TV shows, I was inspired to write about mines.  There are so many good shows that are out right now, that it’s so hard for us to catch up.  Usually shows that we miss, we’re able to download it on torrent and watch it later, but for some odd reason, torrent doesn’t work anymore.  No one puts the new season’s shows on.  So, let me give you a glimpse of how crazy the Kanyavong’s are with our TV shows.

Mondays-Usually, I’m at BSF and Sichan’s at Share the Rock, so on monday, we only come home to watch, Heroes.  At first, I thought this show wouldn’t be good, but it exceeded my expectations.  It’s kind of like fantastic 4 combined with xmen.  pretty cool!  plus, it has Jess from Gilmore Girls in it! :)    This season, we’re putting CSI: Miami on the back burner since Heroes have been on.

Tuesdays-That’s a rough one for us.  Personally, I’m routing for Gilmore Girls, but we both also enjoy House, M.D.   So, usually we’ll watch House, but I’m thankful for this month, since baseball finals, House M.D. is moved to Wednesday nights.  I’m so happy for baseball season.  Never been a big fan of baseball, but since it’s helping with our TV conflicts, I’m 100% for it! :)

Wednesdays- We usually don’t watch any tv on wednesday nights since we have small group.  But whenever possible, Sichan like to catch Criminal Minds and CSI: New York. Both of these shows are great, but by midweek, it’s hard for me to invest my time in these shows when I have homework to do.

Thursdays- CSI is always on in the Kanyavong household. Tonight’s eposide is probably going to freak me out, though since the “dead” are coming back alive. Really weird. Not sure if I want to watch it. We’re missing My name is Earl though. I like that show even though I don’t agree with karma. The show has it’s funny quirks. I especially enjoy “Joy”, who plays Earl’s ex-wife. She is what I would considered “trailer trash”. Pretty funny!

Friday- Although there are a few great shows like, Close to Home and Numb3rs, we’re usually running errands or at our friends’ house for Poker night.

There are still quite a number of shows that I wish that I had more spare time to watch. I heard that the New adventures of the Old Christine is worth watching. I’m still giving “Help Me, Help you” a chance while Ugly Betty has been rumored to be funny to watch. It’s nice sometimes to forget about our worries, concerns, problems, and just vegetate in front of the tv but we all have to come back to reality. Our life here is not to watch TV, but it’s good sometimes to sit and relax in front of the tv.

Crazy Weekend! October 2, 2006

journal.jpgSo, right now, my past weekend was a blur to me.  Definetly, of course, it was way too short! :)

On friday night, I quickly left work to get home in time to meet Salina for women of faith!  I’ve been super excited for the last few months to attend, that maybe I got my hopes too high this year.  Not to say that the messages weren’t awesome, but there were a few things that bothered me a little.

One thing was that when the special speaker came on, Robin McGraw (Dr. Phil’s wife), the audience wents nuts over her.  Cameras were flashing everywhere!!!  The other speakers didn’t have cameras flashing like she did.  Later on, when Dr. Phil came on stage to walk her down (if you’ve seen his show, you’ll understand why), the crowd was screaming like teenagers, “we love you, Dr. Phil”.  I found that to be somewhat ridculous!  I mean, he’s a brother in Christ, and he’s just like you and I.  Why should I go all crazy over him and his family????

It was such a compact conference that I feel like I’m still trying to digest and absorb all the messages/lessons that I’ve learned thus far.  Maybe it’s because right now, it’s monday morning, but the only lesson that I can recall right now is: that I need to take care of myself as a woman, before taking care of others.  We, as females have always been taught to take care of others; placing other needs before our needs, but in order for us to take care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first.

I know I must have learned other lessons over the weekend because I almost bought every book possible.  Yes, I did go on a book freenzy.  The only two that I didn’t get were of Robin McGraw’s book and Thelma Wells book.
